@browneyedgurl801: HE'S OUT ON BOND IN TWO CRIMINAL CASES AND WEARING AN ANKLE MONITOR. ARKANSAS VOTERS JUST MADE HIM COUNTY JUDGE ANYWAY Scott's take: Running unopposed is a great strategy, right up until you get arrested twice and the deadline to replace you has already passed. His first day in office could come before his day in court, which is a scheduling problem I've never seen a client try to solve this way. A former Arkansas state lawmaker who is facing felony domestic violence charges has just been elected Benton County Judge, the county's top executive job. Austin McCollum, 35, a former Republican member of the Arkansas House, ran unopposed after winning the GOP primary in March. He was arrested on Aug. 1 at the couple's farmhouse on suspicion of aggravated assault on a family or household member, domestic battery and first-degree false imprisonment. His wife has accused him in court filings of punching and choking her after an argument following a wedding. He pleaded not guilty, was released on $10,000 bond, and resigned his House seat at the urging of Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. His wife won an order of protection in September requiring him to stay at least 1,500 feet away from her. On Sept. 29 he was arrested again, on suspicion of stalking and violating that order, after allegedly showing up at a school open house while she was there and being seen twice at the children's daycare. A judge set a $150,000 cash-only bond. He was released Oct. 6 with an ankle monitor. The legal deadline to replace him on the ballot passed Sept. 17, so his name stayed on, and he won Tuesday. The outgoing county judge has said McCollum should not take the oath, but he can legally be sworn in in January. He would lose the office if convicted of a felony while serving. If convicted, he faces 3 to 10 years on each of the domestic battery and false imprisonment charges, and up to six years on the aggravated assault charge. His next court date in both cases is Dec. 1. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #CrimeTalk #TrueCrime #AustinMcCollum #BentonCounty #Arkansas
