Wake Up! Yeah, I can't get enough of cubbie cuteness! One cutie was sound asleep when GOTCHA 😁 So how do I come across moments like this? Simple. I show up. Of course it's more like I show up. And show up. And show up. And show up. And spend a lot of time seeing nothing. That's the part you don't see. There’s no hack. Sometimes there’s luck, but mostly it comes down to patience. Letting moments happen on their terms, not ours. Having realistic expectations and understanding animal behavior are essential. Now throw social media into the mix. Wild animals can come right into your home. Or phone. But with that increased access can come increased education and appreciation or increased misconceptions. One big misconception about wildlife is that when you see animals, they will be doing something

Letting moments happen on their terms, not ours. Having realistic expectations and understanding animal behavior are essential. Now throw social media into the mix. Wild animals can come right into your home. Or phone. But with that increased access can come increased education and appreciation or increased misconceptions. One big misconception about wildlife is that when you see animals, they will be doing something "amazing". For me, an animal just standing there is amazing. And the reality is when we see wildlife it's in the middle of just trying to survive no matter what it's doing. But some folks expect some insane level of action because they saw a viral video. Those unrealistic expectations about animal behavior can be very harmful. Case in point: I’ve seen people, full grown adults, throwing rocks at gators just to make them move because they expect them to always be “on.” Zero respect and zero understanding that basking is key to survival. Same with black bears. This past trip to GSMNP there was a yearling, just newly "kicked out" by mom, who laid down for a rest. Exhausted from the stress of having to become fully independent literally overnight. Head down, sleepy eyes cute as can be on a log pillow. But that wasn't "cute enough" for some folks who tried to startle him with loud noises so he would look up. Zero respect and zero understanding that resting is key to survival. Human behavior like that infuriates me at the time but ultimately increases my resolve to show real wildlife stories to combat misconceptions. It's a battle worth fighting. Many of you are also fighting the good fight. Thank you. Keep up the amazing work. These guys need us. All of us. And if you're someone who's still learning, they need you, too. ❤️ #cuteanimals #bears #cutenes
