if there’s one topic that will send me to the MOON, it’s plus size bridal fit, construction + representation. stocking plus size wedding dresses is not the same thing as actually understanding plus size bodies and representation matters, but consideration in design matters just as much. and there are still far too many bridal designers who grade a straight-size gown up without adequately reconsidering bust support, boning, cup placement, waist placement, strap positioning, proportions, structure, weight distribution, etc. some designers are MUCH better about this than others. and as someone formally trained in body fit engineering… this is the hill i will die on. bridal stylists: you do NOT need to have the same body type as your bride to become incredibly good at fitting her body because YOU CAN LEARN. you can learn how different bodies lay, how proportions fall, how gown construction interacts with those bodies, what proper support looks like, how a sample should be clipped to accurately represent fit, and which design elements are going to behave differently once ordered in the bride’s correct size. the problem is that this level of plus size bridal education is rarely taught, or even expected, at most bridal shops, they throw these poor girls in the deep end because it’s viewed as an afterthought to many who don’t have the same body type, thus leading to subpar and discouraging bridal shopping experiences. you can stock sizes 24, 28, 32 and beyond, but if you and your stylists haven’t been taught how to properly fit, style and understand curvy bodies of all shapes and sizes, inventory without education is just marketing. plus size brides deserve more than being able to technically fit into the inventory. they deserve stylists and designers who actually considered their bodies in the first place. #PlusSizeBridal #PlusSizeBride #CurvyBride #BridalStylist #bridalinfluencer
