@liquidassets6: Hydraulic ram pump: water pumped uphill with no power. The flow slams the waste valve shut, the water hammer pushes a slug through a second valve into an air chamber, and the air pushes it up the pipe. Dozens of times a minute, day and night. A 10 ft fall can lift water 80 ft, though less than a tenth makes the climb. Joseph-Michel Montgolfier built the first self-acting one in 1796, 13 years after his family's balloon carried the first people into the sky. Send this to someone who thinks every pump needs a plug.
