@thewanderreader: 💙Comment a book that changed your beliefs💙 this is just the beginning! So proud to be a Texan these last 24 hours, and I owe my understanding of everything that has gone down and my affiliation to what I’ve learned from books. I NEVER would have read certain books and learned what I needed to if so many people on booktok hadn’t led me to read these. The past 2 years of reading have entirely changed who I am🩵 I’m beyond thankful for this community, their compassion, and coming together to make a change. Everyone has their reasons, and they may not all look the same. But at the end of the day, the message is this: READ. THE. BOOKS. I’d LOVE any new book recs you have for ME, and if you want any specific books for your situation let’s talk in the comments (or message me)!!📖 #bluewave #BookTok #bookrecs #books #read

I started reading books by Jodi Picoult when I was 15 and I give her a lot of credit for my current beliefs because she created very complex characters and topics that showed that people are never one thing and are a product of so many things we will never see.

"The Peace You Keep Giving Away" focuses on choosing yourself, setting boundaries and breaking the habit of putting everyone else first. Definitely a relevant read for anyone working on those things.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It’s non fiction but reads like a novel! Covers ethics, race, poverty, science. So good, I promise!

I was born into a super religious family who are still maga but when I turned 18 the presidential candidate was Obama and I couldn’t believe my parents weren’t voting for him. I never went back and realized that my 18 year old self knew her future self more than she thought.

You have lots of my faves here. I really felt like The Knight and the Moth was a very good book as I am working thru my deconstruction. And the sequel The Knave and the Moon really explores how people in power can exploit the resources of the indigenous. Sooo good!

Three of my most recent favs that I think you’d like, because I think you’re a lot like me: such sharp teeth by Rachel Harrison, the area x/southern reach series by Jeff vandermeer (esp the most recent iteration of the introduction in book two “authority”), and Hitlers forgotten children by Ingrid von oelhafen
