Washington, DC, USA — Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna has celebrated his party's major victories in the November 3 midterm elections, declaring "DEI is back!" in a video shared on X. Khanna highlighted the historic election of candidates from different backgrounds, including Black, Latino, Muslim and LGBTQ+ communities. In his video, he said: "Tonight, DEI is back as America celebrated diversity and inclusion. Likely three black governors. The first Latina governor in Texas. The first Muslim American senator. The first gay senator. I love this America." Among the historic victories, Gina Hinojosa became Texas' first Latina governor, while Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan's Senate race, becoming the first Muslim American elected to the chamber. Chris Pappas also made history as the first openly gay man elected to the US Senate. Meanwhile, Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress, marking a major political shift following the election. Khanna's comments have attracted attention, with the meaning and future direction of DEI policies likely to remain part of America's political debate.
