Washington State is located in the northwestern United States, in a region known as the Pacific Northwest. It borders Canada to the north, Idaho to the east, Oregon to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It should not be confused with Washington, D.C., the American capital. Its transportation infrastructure includes international airports, highways, railways and ferry services connecting communities around Puget Sound. Culturally, Washington is associated with an environmentally conscious and relatively progressive population.
