@gettinggziggywithit: Toad came to us as a 10 day foster in June 2023. By day 6 we had signed the adoption paperwork, and by about day 7 we learned he had opinions about other dogs. Strong opinions. For a long time I thought the goal was to fix that. Get him to make friends and play. We wanted him to be able to enjoy the dog bar like Ziggy. Eventually we realized that while he could exist in the space, he wasn’t enjoying it. That was never going to be where Toad felt comfortable, and honestly, I get it. What actually made an impact was working on our relationship with him. Teaching him that we see the other dog too, and it’s our job to advocate for him and keep him safe. That we will always give him space. That he doesn’t have to handle it himself because we have his back. And now? He lies on a blanket in the park, watches a dog walk by, and goes right back to people watching. He still doesn’t love other dogs. He just doesn’t have to carry that burden alone anymore. That’s the whole point. If you have a reactive dog, you get it. This is your reminder that reactive dogs aren’t bad dogs and they aren’t broken. They just need someone to see them and show up for them. Tell me about your most recent reactive dog win. I want to celebrate with you. #dogmomlife #phillydogs #americanbully #fosterfail #reactivedog
