@thealanvargas: ICE and Border Patrol will no longer get a free pass to terrorize our communities we sent a clear message that they are going to jail for their crimes. With potential Allies in office now we must fight for Justice for our immigrant and Latino communities. We also want there bloated budget to be cut and for there to be investment in our communities and our cities! And criminal ICE agents must go to jail.

This is 23-year-old Latifa Akumu. On October 3, this first photograph was taken as Latifa stood before mourners, reading the eulogy and paying tribute to her late mother. Nobody could have imagined that, barely three weeks later, she would become the subject of another heartbreaking tragedy. On October 26, Latifa reportedly went missing while in Kibra. Her family and friends were left desperately searching for answers. Yesterday, November 4, her body was reportedly discovered dumped in a sack in River Nithi, Chuka, with horrifying injuries. Preliminary accounts indicate that her body had multiple stab wounds to the head and other parts of the body, alongside a deep cut at the back of her head. Her fists were reportedly tightly clenched, and she had bitten her tongue. The prime suspect is reportedly Daniel Wamutitu, a man who allegedly had romantic interests in Latifa but whose advances she had rejected. Latifa was only 23. A young woman with an entire lifetime ahead of her. Her only apparent offence, according to the allegations surrounding this tragedy, was rejecting a man's advances. When did rejection become a death sentence? When did a woman's right to say NO become a reason for someone to take her life? We cannot continue normalising the murder of women simply because they exercised their freedom to choose whom to love or reject. Rest in peace, Latifa Akumu. May your family find strength in this unbearable moment, and may justice not be delayed or denied. #JusticeForLatifaAkumu #EndFemicide #justiceforwomensafety
