@nealkshah: Your internal body clock runs 11 minutes too slow every day, and skipping morning daylight leaves it running blind. Here’s a simple, free morning habit linked to a lower risk of dementia: getting bright outdoor light soon after you wake up. In a major study tracking 90,000 adults with wrist sensors for over eight years, people who got bright daylight before noon had significantly lower rates of dementia and cognitive decline. Here’s why it works. Your brain has a master clock that naturally drifts a bit each day, and it needs a strong jolt of morning light to reset and start a roughly 16-hour countdown to deep, restorative sleep that night. And deep sleep is when your brain does its cleaning, flushing out the amyloid and tau proteins linked to Alzheimer’s. The catch: indoor lighting is far too dim to do the job, reaching only a few hundred “lux,” while even a cloudy morning sky delivers thousands. So the fix is to get outside for 15 to 30 minutes within an hour of waking, ideally on a short walk, looking toward the open sky but never directly at the sun. If your mornings are dark, a 10,000-lux light therapy box works too. Follow for more brain-health science, and share this with someone who stays indoors all morning. #5MinutePlus

Living in the north is a challenge. The sun rises around 08:00 - 0845 in December and January. While in mid June it rises at 03:30. The light therapy light is like staring into the sun and as fun as taking ice baths.

Getting sunlight truly makes me feel well and if don’t, I truly feel off. This insight is key to feeling stronger and mentally ok.

Serious question - where do sunglasses fit into this? In the summer, sunglasses are needed to protect your eyes right?
