I have a completely unstudied theory that this is why women’s cycles sync up after enough time together. That way (theoretically) we’re all ovulating at the same time, then hopefully pregnant at the same time; with babies at the same time. That way if someone’s supply doesn’t come in, there are other women in the village who also have newborns they’re nursing.

As a gay man who knows NOTHING about any of this... I feel like this is what they mean when it takes a village to raise your kids. What an awesome thing to be able to be able to ask/help with.

Back in the 60s my grandma was a wet nurse for all of the babies who didn’t have moms in the hospital where she lived she fed over like 60 babies in her time there

The day after my C-section, my friend came to visit me in the hospital. I was struggling mentally, my baby was hungry and upset, and I was stressed about breastfeeding. She looked at me and asked, “Would you be okay if I breastfed him to see if it helps?” I said yes. ❤️My baby finally ate, and I got some much-needed rest. It was one of the most beautiful, selfless things anyone has ever done for us. I’ll never forget it. 🥹❤️

I was an overproducer and was able to donate to multiple moms in my area. My biggest compliment was when one mom told me that she tried everything to help her baby gain weight and within one week of drinking my breastmilk, her baby gained weight. It helped me continue pumping and help more moms. I did it for a year… twice.

I pumped for my friends baby for a year so he’d have bottles at daycare. We aren’t friends anymore but I miss her baby so much. I would do anything for him still.

Ex wife and my brothers wife had babies a month apart and my ex had to wet nurse my niece in an emergency one time. Nothing stops a mom from caring for a baby, regardless of who’s baby.

my neighbour would babysit my sister (10 year gap) when she was a baby, once i saw her breastfeeding her and freaked out. but in her culture it’s polite, nurturing and good for the child. i breastfed my friends baby boy when she couldn’t, and i produced milk after losing mine. we’re girls but we’re also a village 💞. on this note he can’t differentiate me and our other friend now and he’s 3 💀

Back in the old days, when baby formula wasn't available, my mama used to help breastfeed her neighbors' babies whenever their mothers' breast milk was delayed.

my good friend had her first baby at 39 & had a hard time latching. I offered to come help her with it. when I got there she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said "I'm so exhausted will you please just feed him" I was making milk for a giant 2 year old and he was a tiny 5 day old. I fed him for 45 minutes and he slept for 6 hours after. we worked on her latch technique and she proceeded to feed 2 kids for over 5 years. it was the proudest and most bonding womanhood moment of my life. women are amazing ❤️

my daughter died at 36 days old after she passed i continued to pump and donate for 6 months after. and I'd do it again. ❤️

It was my third and he ended up going to the nicu, my body had always produced a ridiculous amount of colostrum so I pumped it for him and they asked if I could donate excess. I fed all five nicu babies for the few days we were there. It was the best feeling in the world to be able to help. I wish this was more normalized.

this is so beautiful. reminds me of a story I read a few years ago a mother was found unalived with her new born next to her the mother passed due to a brain aneurysm. there was a woman officer who got on scene and immediately started crying. you could hear the baby's hunger cries she immediately picked up that any and began feeding him. no one thought it was weird or gross we saw a woman who was able to feed baby with nothing except her body. women are incredible
