i was 17 when 9/11 happened and the racism was off the charts. like, loud and proud everyday people spoke openly any and everywhere. it was horrible

Girl, I was 9. We were in school. My teacher looked at me and said “is this what you believe in?” I was so confused, I just said no. It didnt click to me until literally I was an adult how incredibly crazy that was to ask a child. I lived in a predominantly latino community so we were good. But once we moved a bit more south in the city, thats when it was getting scary. Ever since Gaza a few years ago, I have had that same sense of hate, and I do worry, but more for my children. But like a lot of the comments have said, its all good. We are built for this. Allah got us and we wont live in fear.

My dad told me verbatim "I am a proud white American man, and I don't like that he's Muslim." He said it with his entire chest. I told him that was a horrible take and I left the house in tears. I still haven't talked to him since it happened.

it was bad 9/11 I would close to the same we just didn't have platforms and access like we do today now we can all experience at once and see it .......but I think with politics it's co.pletely changed all decorum out of the window I have never heard senators blatantly get on TV and display it thats Def. different

I was in my 20s my brother was in the army. it was similar...very open and obvious but I think this is worse because social media allows for people to announce to all what they were just saying in person.

I’m not muslim, but I’m older. The racism is different from post-9/11 in that people know a little more about Islam now than they did then so their attacks are even more directed and pointed. Similar loudness and bluntness of racism though, just a little less sloppy? Like for example they aren’t “accidentally” doing racism to non-muslims as much as they were back then.
