@alyece1smith: I wish someone had told me this YEARS ago. 😭 When you have an autistic child who elopes, even a simple car ride can become a safety nightmare. We tried what felt like EVERY car seat on the market. Caiden could escape from them. And then I learned something that changed everything. Our insurance covered a specialized car seat designed for his safety. Here’s what I want other autism parents to know: Insurance may cover WAY more than you realize when something is medically necessary. Specialized car seats. Safety equipment. Adaptive devices. Things you may have been paying for out of pocket or didn’t even know existed. I’m not going to pretend getting things approved is always easy. Sometimes it takes documentation, letters of medical necessity, appeals, and a LOT of advocating. But please don’t assume something isn’t covered just because nobody told you it was an option. I wrote an entire chapter in my book, What Now, Mama?, about navigating insurance, getting the support your child needs, and learning how to advocate without feeling completely lost. 👉Comment MAMA and I’ll send you the link. 💙 And PLEASE share this with another autism parent. They might need this information today. #AutismParenting #AutismMom #AutismAwareness #AutismSafety #AutismElopement
