As an ICU nurse, I always check for contacts especially those coming in as trauma patients. I have personally removed them for patients and saved them in specimen containers as L & R because I know that shit is expensive 😭

I have this same fear so every time I check a patients pupils during my first assessment I also take a quick look to see if I can see a contact while I'm at it because I pray if I'm ever in that same situation my nurse will do that for me

Hi, previously dead, brought back to life after respiratory failure patient here, after I woke from my coma I panicked because I couldn’t see and didn’t know where I was. The doctor removed my contacts 🥹 and once I heard my dad’s voice I knew I was ok. He immediately went to my house to get my glasses because I can see about an inch in front of my face without anything.

I did this with a stroke patient had them in 3 days! he didn't remember just said his eyes hurt. I'm like I bet but somehow pupil checks were charted for 3 days and nobody else noticed...

As a woman ICU nurse- I’ve taken out contacts, false eyelashes and tampons!! I even talked to mgmt about cutting their nails.
