@mugup.app: In 2018, YouTube's product chief said more than 70% of watch time came from its recommendations. Google's engineers wrote in 2016 that the ranking was mostly built around expected watch time. YouTube says it now also uses surveys, likes and shares. When researchers asked 120 YouTube users what made them feel in or out of control, recommendations and autoplay came up as the problem, and playlists and search as the help.
