@willowbradner: Day 4. The water is gone. The devastation isn’t. Today, for the first time since the Junction Creek flood, I had a chance to step away from our own home and see what our neighbors are facing. And my heart broke all over again. Story after story. Families living on fixed incomes. Neighbors returning home from vacation to find their homes destroyed. People who have worked their entire lives for what they have, now standing in mud wondering how they will ever afford to rebuild. And there is one word that keeps coming up. MONEY. Not because people are greedy. Not because they want a handout. But because rebuilding a life costs money. Some have no flood insurance. Some are facing denied claims. And many have no idea where financial assistance will come from. We have a community full of people willing to help. Shovels, machinery, meals, volunteers, neighbors showing up for neighbors. But generosity alone cannot rebuild an entire neighborhood. We are still waiting for federal disaster assistance. Waiting for answers. Waiting to find out whether the government will recognize the financial devastation happening right here in Durango, Colorado. Meanwhile, the bills don’t stop. The mortgages don’t stop. Winter isn’t waiting. And neither can the families who have lost their homes. We don’t need pity. We need help. Until that help arrives, people will continue cobbling their lives back together with whatever they have left. Hope. Prayers. Neighbors. Community. And a whole lot of determination. Durango, Colorado needs more than thoughts and prayers right now. We need resources to rebuild. Please share our story. There are families here who desperately need to be seen. #DurangoFlood #sendhelp #fyp #DisasterRelief #womeninconstruction

You live in an affluent area, forced single families out. We had to move because we couldn't afford the price of living in Durango.

Following from West Texas as former resident of Florida (weather devastation was frequent) and a frequent visitor, admirer and hopefully future resident of SW Colorado. My heart is broken. Sending prayers daily for all of you. Hope to get up there soon (when allowed) to help with recovery.
