True 1 of 1 human. Lionel Messi is 39 and he’s the only player who’s ever made the rest of them look like they’re playing a different sport. Rosario kid. At eleven he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency and his family couldn’t afford the treatment. Barcelona offered to pay it if he moved to Spain, so he left Argentina at thirteen and grew up in their academy. Then seventeen years at Barcelona. 672 goals, four Champions Leagues, ten league titles. Eight Ballon d’Ors, more than anyone. He scored 91 goals in a single calendar year, which nobody has come close to. Then PSG, then Inter Miami, and he’s dragged American football into relevance almost by himself. But the one that mattered was Qatar. He’d lost four finals with Argentina and been blamed for all of them. Then 2022, and he carried that team to the World Cup at 35. The country loves him. The style is the opposite of the game. Plain tee, jeans, trainers, but some incredible suits when he has to. Nothing about him has ever asked for attention. He’s funded children’s hospitals in Argentina and Spain for years through his foundation and almost never mentions it. The quietest man in the sport and the best there’s ever been.
