A TA in one of my grad classes told everyone "if I pronounce your name wrong please tell me". But when he got to mine he literally said out loud "...I'm not even going to try". MARIANA ISN'T EVEN A COMPLICATED NAME. I stayed after class and made him practice until he got it right.

I don't understand it, Spanish words (with the exception of native words) use mostly the same sounds as English, and most of the accented or extra letters can be formed from English sounds, the only hard part to me was rolling my Rs

My named is Alondra Garcia, I have a coworker who always calls me Alejandra Gonzales. I've corrected her so many times. I live in a predominantly white suburb that has a lot of German and Polish last names. If they can pronounce some of their last names they can pronounce my first name. I realize a lot of people don't care and don't want to care. A lot of my patients will look at my name tag and say my name correctly the first time.

Honestly in general it’s annoying as hell when someone won’t make the smallest effort to learn the pronunciation and defaults to mispronouncing it on purpose or a nickname you don’t use. Genuinely had a kid ask if he could just straight up call me “i” and got mad when I said no.
