I think a lot of us underestimate how much our everyday habits determine the kind of person we become. We have goals for ourselves. We want to be healthier, more disciplined, more productive and closer to Allah. We think about the person we could become if we made certain changes. But when it comes to actually making those changes, we struggle to let go of the things that are holding us back. We want to improve our health, but we're unwilling to change what we eat. We want to be more productive, but we continue spending hours scrolling through our phones. We want a stronger relationship with Allah, but we keep returning to the same habits that distance us from Him. And I think that's where a lot of people get stuck. Because wanting to change your life is very different from being willing to change how you live. You can have the best intentions in the world, but if your daily decisions remain the same, you shouldn't be surprised when your circumstances remain the same too. At some point, you have to be willing to give up certain things. Certain routines. Certain distractions. Certain pleasures that feel good in the moment but are costing you something far more valuable in the long run. And that isn't always easy, especially when those habits have been part of your life for years. But you can't keep holding on to everything that's preventing you from growing and expect to become someone different. Sometimes becoming the person you want to be requires letting go of the habits that are keeping you as the person you are.
