@horror.freemedia: A newly elected Democratic senator has just publicly agreed with D. Trump. And the issue bringing them together is one of the most controversial in American foreign policy. U.S. military aid to Israel. Abdul El-Sayed, who defeated Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan's Senate election, has become the first Muslim ever elected to the U.S. Senate. During the campaign, Trump repeatedly attacked El-Sayed, calling him a "jihadist" and accusing him of having extremist sympathies. El-Sayed strongly denied those allegations. But just one day after his election victory, something unexpected happened. Trump announced plans to end nearly $4 billion in annual U.S. military aid to Israel. And El-Sayed publicly supported the proposal. Speaking to NPR, he said: "I think the president is actually right on this policy." But El-Sayed wants to go even further. He called for stopping weapons sales that he believes contribute to serious human rights abuses. He also questioned American military assistance to countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Pakistan. His argument? American taxpayers' money should be spent on healthcare, education, infrastructure and families at home. But there's a major complication. The United States currently has an agreement providing Israel with $3.8 billion in annual military assistance through 2028. Trump has announced his intention to end the aid, but the precise legal and congressional steps remain unclear. And his proposal would still allow American weapons sales to Israel. So Trump and El-Sayed agree on ending direct military aid, but they disagree on how far the restrictions should go. After a bitter election campaign, the two political opponents have unexpectedly found common ground on a major foreign policy issue. Do you think Democrats and Republicans can cooperate on military aid policy despite their other disagreements? #AbdulElSayed #DTrump #Israel #USSenate #Pol*tics
