I think one of the biggest misconceptions about art collecting is that you have to live in an art epicenter or have an in somewhere to make a great art purchase. With a lot of observation and time and a little effort and a willingness to cold email, anyone can buy good art and discover artists. I say this a lot, but the best way to find artists is just to stay curious. I find artists everywhere. Obviously I visit museums and galleries because that's part of the fun, but I also discover artists on Instagram, TikTok, and through friends who know my taste. Sometimes another collector will send me someone's work or I’ll see it in their house. Sometimes it's a gallerist who says,

Sometimes it's a gallerist who says, "Hey, I think you'd love this artist." And some of my favorite discoveries have happened completely by accident. I've found artists hanging in coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, hotels, and little neighborhood businesses. Once you start paying attention, you realize original art is everywhere and so much of it is actually affordable to us “mere mortals”. The goal isn't to chase whatever artist everyone else is buying. It's to build your own visual library, observing and experimenting your way into your own taste. Follow artists on social media. Visit local galleries. Go to museums. Talk to artists when you can. Tell your friends you're interested in collecting. The more you immerse yourself in the art world, the more artists you'll naturally discover. #ArtCollecting #ArtCollector #HowToCollectArt #HowToFindArtists #EmergingArtists
