@crimestories075: A drifter offered to split a widow's whole woodpile for one plate of beans. She turned him down—then a letter came, and she ran after him through the snow. Etta Doyle has run the Kettle Pass stage station alone for two winters, since her husband Tom died of a fever. Owen Garrity, a worn-out drifter, takes the axe from her hands, asks only for beans and a corner of the barn, and stacks her wood even after she says no. Then a letter that sat in the snow for a week arrives: her father is coming up on tonight's coach to finally meet her husband, Lionel. There is no Lionel. For thirty-one letters, Etta made him up so her grieving father's hands would stop shaking. So she hires Owen for two silver dollars a day to play Lionel: a Denver bank clerk, the best waltzer in town, scared to death of horses. By the end of supper, Owen has calmed a spooked coach horse and figured bank interest faster than any banker. Then her father reveals why he brought a preacher: on Sunday morning, the two of them will say their vows in front of him. And Owen has one rule—he doesn't swear to anything. 👉 Watch till the end — when the preacher says "Do you, Lionel Whitmore," nobody in that room is ready for the answer.
