@saeedtahirgee: "In 1905, a baby girl was born into one of the best connected families in Europe, and her story would end up linking three countries. Princess Astrid of Sweden was the grandchild of two kings, Oscar II of Sweden and Frederik VIII of Denmark, and her mother, Princess Ingeborg, was a Danish princess. Her uncle was King Gustav V of Sweden, who hosted her civil wedding in his palace. And here is the part that gives me goosebumps. Her older sister Margaretha married into the Danish royal family, her other sister Martha married the future King Olav V of Norway, and Astrid herself became Queen of the Belgians. Three sisters, three royal families, three countries. After 1918, Europe was short of eligible Protestant princesses who were not German, which made Astrid and her sisters unexpectedly popular as possible brides. Newspapers matched Astrid with the Prince of Wales at the start of 1926 and with the future Norwegian king later that summer, long before the Belgian heir became her husband. Yet the sisters stayed close. At the 1926 wedding Martha served as a bridesmaid, Margaretha and her husband, Prince Axel of Denmark, came to Stockholm to watch the arrival of the Belgian family dressed in ordinary street clothes, and Astrid's veil of Brussels lace had already been worn by her mother and by Margaretha. A family heirloom travelled from one bride to the next. I find that so touching, a simple piece of lace passing love along the line. Astrid and her sisters also had more freedom than many princesses of their day, because they were not direct descendants of the Swedish king, and they were sometimes seen shopping on the streets of Stockholm unaccompanied. Sisterhood, lace and a little bit of freedom. That is a royal story worth remembering. Share this with your own sister or best friend. #music #fblifestyle #Love #special #Sisters"
