@tokyojapannow: Japan has officially denied claims that it agreed to accept 100,000 Bangladeshi workers following a high-level meeting between the two countries. The clarification comes after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on October 27. On October 29, Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Toshihiro Kitamura stated on X that no agreement to accept 100,000 workers from Bangladesh had been reached, including during the summit discussions. Instead, the talks focused on economic cooperation. Japanese private investment in Bangladesh is expected to reach approximately ¥1 trillion over five years, potentially creating around 200,000 jobs within Bangladesh itself. The ministry also clarified that none of the six related documents involved immigration or the deployment of Bangladeshi workers to Japan. The widely circulated 100,000 figure appears to have originated from an earlier business-led ambition to welcome that number of workers over five years, rather than annually.
