@maashouse: 🐞 THOUSANDS of ladybugs hiding in a magical redwood forest right here in the San Francisco Bay Area! 🌲❤️ Two weeks ago, I stumbled across a TikTok by @Tatiana showing thousands of ladybugs gathering for winter at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park in Oakland, California. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for years and had NO idea this incredible place existed! Today, on my 56th birthday, I decided to experience it for myself. And OH MY GOODNESS! What an extraordinary gift! ❤️ Thousands upon thousands of ladybugs covering wooden fence posts, railings, leaves, and foliage. 🐞 DID YOU KNOW? Ladybugs gather in enormous groups to survive the colder months. This fascinating natural phenomenon is called overwintering aggregation. They shelter together during winter, conserving energy until warmer weather returns. These beautiful little beetles are also wonderful for our gardens because they eat aphids and other pests! And the hike? Absolutely BREATHTAKING! Towering coastal redwoods, lush ferns, moss covered logs, winding woodland trails, brilliant autumn colors, and sunlight streaming through the forest canopy. 🌲🍂 God’s beautiful handiwork everywhere I looked! 📍 SAVE THESE DIRECTIONS! 🌲 Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, Oakland, CA 🚗 Park at Canyon Meadow Staging Area. 🥾 Follow Stream Trail approximately 1.25 miles. 🌉 Turn right across the bridge toward the Prince Trail junction. 🐞 Look for ladybugs gathering on wooden fence posts, railings, bushes, and surrounding vegetation. 📏 Approximately 2.5–3 miles round trip. 📅 Best viewing season is generally November through February. Sightings vary with weather and conditions. ❤️ PLEASE admire these precious creatures without touching, collecting, or disturbing them. They’re gathering to survive the winter!
