responses to some frequent comments I get when I say some of these things: "being an addict is a choice." 🥚 I always think it's weird when people say, "this fact isn't a fact, my opinion is a fact" but if you look at the state of the world, I guess I can't blame anyone for thinking that makes any kind of sense. and that's fine, freedom of speech n' all that, but I want to mention that there are some who know a bit more about the topic than you, so I am going to listen to them. they include... • American Medical Association • American Psychiatric Association • Centers for Disease Control • National Institute of Health • World Health Organization • Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) • every single credible medical establishment and piece of medical literature that exists • science "being an addict DOES make you a bad person." 🍳 that is very easily proven false. I'm not my biggest fan, but I don't think I've done anything that warrants calling me a bad person. I think you'd be surprised by the amount of people you've known and liked who you didn't know were addicts. there are a lot of people who are addicted to drugs and do a lot of bad things. however, there are MANY addicts, including myself, who never do any bad things (to anyone but themselves) while under the influence. they don't steal from loved ones or strangers. they don't physically harm anybody. I'm sorry if you've had bad experiences with addicts, I'm sorry if your only knowledge about addiction comes from news articles about horrible things people did while on drugs, but it's like I said in the video: drugs didn't make them bad people, they were just bad people who happened to be on drugs. fun fact: the vast majority of bad things are done by people who are not on drugs. :D 👁️👄👁️👍 I have a playlist on here called "do you have a loved one who is an addict?" that you can check out if you, like the title asks, have a loved one who is an addict. I've been on both sides of that battle, and it is a hard one for all involved. if you or a loved one is suffering from any kind of addiction - drugs, disordered eating, self harm, gambling, internet, video games, shopping, exercising, cleaning, working, hoarding, etc. - I hope you are able to find the help you need to start healing. it's hard for me to give advice to those who love addicts because every situation is so different and things that may work for some, may end up being detrimental to others. but there is one piece of advice I can give to all who love an addict: you have to put your wellbeing first, not theirs. that can be incredibly hard, but you HAVE to do it. if you are not well, you can't help someone else who is also unwell. it will only lead to negative outcomes for both of you. this means you HAVE to set boundaries. sometimes you can help the person. if they say they want to get sober but they seem to need help starting, you can be by their side as they enter some sort of rehab/recovery program. if they go against your boundaries, you may have to be that person's rock bottom and leave until they show proof that they are truly ready to get sober. and I mean real proof, not, "I think I'm ready, I'll start after this weekend." I mean, "I signed up at a methadone program" or "I got into a rehab program" or "I found an addiction doctor who I'm going to see every week" or something that is really proof that they are actually doing something NOW, not tomorrow. because, unfortunately, if there's one thing many people love putting off, it's getting sober. but remember, recovery is very, very possible, and NOBODY is hopeless. ❤️‍🩹 p.s. if you ever see anyone saying cruel things about addicts, just remind yourselves that you're smarter than they are and you have more empathy than they do, because they apparently only have the brain power to understand stigmas and stereotypes instead of the ability to actually acquire and absorb knowledge. c: #addiction #recovery #sober #MentalHealth #fyp
After living in California my entire life, the bluest of blue states, I was worried about moving to Texas. Texas is a place that the media pretty much taught to be terrified of. 😅 So the fact that the first election I voted in here was this one has me feeling so positive and motivated! I've never been super educated about politics, but it's easy to understand why @jamestalarico and @ginafortexas are going to be monumentally great changes. And I'd like to thank @kenpaxtontx. I was already very excited about voting for Talarico, but Paxton really helped me stay positive about how correct my decision was. He wasted so much paper sending out ad after ad with Talarico's face on it, which clearly showed how little he cares about waste and litter. The whole

I was already very excited about voting for Talarico, but Paxton really helped me stay positive about how correct my decision was. He wasted so much paper sending out ad after ad with Talarico's face on it, which clearly showed how little he cares about waste and litter. The whole "for they/them, not you" tagline on those ads was the funniest political slogan I've ever heard someone say with total seriousness and an excellent bonus to 100% make sure every LGBTQ+ voter in Texas voted for Talarico. And the ad that showed a welcome mat with "illegal immigrants welcome" with a pic of Talarico's face next to it made me hopeful that such an amazing fake item may be a real thing someday. I think a lot of people in my age group have been in the mindset of "why vote? Who cares? Politicians are all the same." I didn't register to vote until I'd been an adult for a decade because I cared so little about anything outside of my own little world (but to be fair, I was miserable 24/7 and didn't care about bathing, eating or being alive either lol) So, one more thank you, this time to trump and his administration. I believe they have made those of us who didn't care much about voting make sure to register and make our voices heard. It's because of him that we can see one thing clearer than ever: even if politicians are similar, there are some that are much, much, much worse than others. There are some that are truly evil. There are some who genuinely want many of us dead. And then there are some who are there for they/them, and you. #jamestalarico #texas #election #ballpython #fyp (actually jk. even thanking trump jokingly to make a point about how much ass he sucks feels gross.) you won't find me talking about things like politics often, but I'm feeling so inspired because of these and so many other changes that have happened because of this election. so many firsts. so many reasons to feel hopeful.
