Nobody tells you that the bell is the last scheduled event. After months of appointments, protocols, check-ins, and a care team that knew your name, the structure just... ends. The calendar that ran your life hands you back a blank page and walks away. During treatment, I had a job: show up, get through it, survive. There was a team. A schedule. A clear enemy. After the bell, there was a question nobody prepared me for: Now what? The casseroles had already stopped. The check-ins slowed to a trickle. Everyone filed me under "done" because the dramatic part was over. But I wasn't done. I was just beginning the part with no protocol. The part where you figure out who you are when you're not a patient anymore. The part where the fear doesn't have an appointment time. The part where you look fine, so nobody asks. Here's what I know now, a few years into the silence: The bell doesn't mark the end of cancer. It marks the end of the version that other people can see. What comes after is yours to build. Nobody hands it to you. No one schedules it. There's no team waiting in the hallway. And strangely, eventually… that becomes the good news. Because the silence that felt like abandonment slowly turned into space. And I got to decide what filled it. #lifeaftercancer #postcancerjourney #cancersurvivor #womenaftercancer #healingaftercancer
