I started over too. Grew up in Brazil then moved to US in my 30s after a failed marriage and went to college here. I am now an information security analyst or 信息安全. Not rich which is not my objective, but I am comfortable with my salary. Each country has supply and demand. Sometimes people look for professions they like rather than what is in demand. It is a hard choice. Chinese culture pressure is one of the reasons my Chinese partner does not like China for work and living, but only for retirement. Not comparing ourselves to others and not wanting to be others is part of being happy. I constantly remind myself that I don’t want to be like the world. I just want to do what works best for me and my family.
