@officialdwp: 🚨 SHOULD EVERY STATE FOLLOW TEXAS AND "BAN SHARIA LAW"? 🇺🇸⚖️ This question is spreading across social media — but there's an IMPORTANT distinction between the viral headline and what Texas law actually does. 🏛️ DID TEXAS COMPLETELY BAN SHARIA LAW? Not in the sense of outlawing Islamic religious beliefs or preventing Muslims from voluntarily practicing their faith. Religious exercise is protected by the First Amendment. What Texas has done is establish and strengthen rules preventing foreign or religious legal systems from overriding American constitutional protections and state law. ⚖️ TEXAS AND FOREIGN LAW: Texas previously enacted legislation restricting courts from applying foreign law when doing so would violate rights protected by the U.S. Constitution or Texas law. That principle isn't limited to Islam. It can apply when ANY foreign legal rule conflicts with constitutionally protected rights. 🔥 THEN CAME ANOTHER MAJOR TEXAS DEBATE. In 2025, Gov. Greg Abbott signed HB 4211. The legislation regulates certain residential developments following controversy surrounding the proposed EPIC City project. Abbott argued the law would prevent discriminatory housing arrangements and attempts to impose separate religious rules on residents. 🏛️ TEXAS ALSO TARGETED ALLEGED "SHARIA COURTS." Later in 2025, Abbott called for investigations into entities he alleged were operating Islamic tribunals as though they possessed governmental judicial authority. But Abbott's own letter recognized an important constitutional distinction: Religious institutions have significant freedom to handle INTERNAL religious matters. ⛪ Christian churches can resolve ecclesiastical questions. ✡️ Jewish religious bodies can make internal religious decisions. ☪️ Muslim institutions can do the same. ⚠️ WHAT THEY CANNOT DO: A religious organization cannot simply replace an American court or claim authority that overrides state and federal law. And that principle applies regardless of religion. 🇺🇸 SO THE REAL QUESTION ISN'T SIMPLY: "Should Sharia law be banned?" A more precise question is: Should every state explicitly guarantee that NO religious or foreign legal system can override constitutional rights or American law? 🔥 SUPPORTERS OF STRONGER RESTRICTIONS ARGUE: American courts should operate exclusively under U.S. and state law. ⚖️ OPPONENTS AND CIVIL-LIBERTIES ADVOCATES MAY ARGUE: The Constitution already establishes that government cannot enforce religious law while simultaneously protecting voluntary religious practice. That makes overly broad religious restrictions potentially problematic. 🇺🇸 THE CORE PRINCIPLE: AMERICAN LAW remains controlling in American courts. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM remains constitutionally protected. The difficult question is how states enforce the first principle without violating the second. 💬 WHAT DO YOU THINK? Should every state adopt stronger laws explicitly preventing religious or foreign legal systems from overriding American law? 👇 Debate respectfully. 🔔 FOLLOW @dailyworldpolitics for political news, legal controversies and national debates. #Texas #GregAbbott #ShariaLaw #ReligiousFreedom #DailyWorldPolitics
