At the veteran who served in Vietnam, it was winnable. The problem was it was being run by the politicians and not the military I remember hearing many conversations by the pilots that were very upset that they were restricted from bombing certain areas because the politicians and made deals with the Vietnamese back door deals. They were very frustrated. The pilot that is plus it was a three front war people don’t realize that what I mean by that it was desert jungle and likely populated areas. Obviously, we didn’t stubby the war when the French were there and how they were defeated, I believe in my heart that Vietnam was approving ground for the military to develop new missiles rockets bombs to use in the future people made a lot of money on that war.

We were on the 1 yard line and knelt down 4 times instead of taking it in. The folks back home had no stomach for it. Winnable? Yes. But at what cost? I was there.

Nixon won it. Ted Kennedy threw the victory away - invite the North to invade, threatened to impeach Ford if Ford honored out treaties with the South. Ford was afraid the nation could not survive without a president, so he folded.

Not winnable, its not like taking Berlin with a few tank divisions. We tried to make it look like we were winning with body counts, but with no territorial gains.

Absolutely all of the wars since Korea if the US wouldn't play the political BS and utilize the tech and munitions we have available. Could be accomplished in weeks not YEARS!!

Soldiers couldn’t have won that war because we had to abide by , “Rules of Engagement “, and the NVA didn’t have to do that !

Yes, if the politicians stayed out of it. The soldiers didn’t like Vietnam, but they had the will to win .

There is a quote from General Giap that claims they were close to surrender or negotiating during the Christmas bombing of 1972.

There is no war that we can not win. The problem is us. We have to be willing to break things and kill people in larg quantities. We dont have the will to do that anymore.

Winnable, probably not. Avoidable yes. Ho Chi Minh approached the US several times for aide and support to gain independence from France. Same thing with the Cuban revolution. The US declined both. Vietnam because France was our ally, and Cuba because Batista was anti communist. Having been turned down by the US, both turned to the USSR.
