@dementia.care.at: Sometimes, the way back to the table begins with something small and familiar. For a person living with dementia, a full plate and repeated encouragement to “eat your dinner” can make mealtime feel demanding. Try a gentler invitation: “Let’s have a little toast together.” Sit beside them, offer a small portion of something they enjoy, and give them time. Think about their preferences. Which jam have they always loved? Do they like their toast lightly golden? Would they enjoy their usual cup of tea? These details help us care for the person beyond the diagnosis. Offer one item at a time, keep the setting calm, and let companionship be part of the meal. Choose foods that fit their dietary needs and any prescribed swallowing guidance. Our role is to create a welcoming moment where eating feels comfortable, familiar, and unhurried. Sometimes, a few bites shared with kindness are a meaningful beginning. © @dementiacareathome #IntergenerationalConnection #DementiaCare #DementiaCareAtHome #CaregiverSupport
