What's New PNG :
Yet Western Province remains one of the most underdeveloped Province in PNG. Pollution from the mine has devastated the riverine communities right from Alice river right through the fly river system and for decades. The damage is massive. Yet the Provincial leadership past and present including OKTEDI have continue to ignore this facts. Legitimate Questions are; *How many indigenous Westerns were employed or trained by the mine since OKTEDI inception? *How many Aid Post and Hospitals has OKTEDI built in Western through out the mines life? *How many schools and Educational institutions has the mine contributed throughout the mines lifespan? For a Mining Giant like OKTEDI, your contribution to Western over the decades is meager and unbecoming of a Mining giant, thus would be classified as scraps, while failing to address the pollution issue that has long-lasting negative effects. It's a sham when this so called elites become paparazzi for the cameras with speeches that dont mean anything to affected rural populations who face the consequences of this mine everyday.
