Rent = No property taxes, repair fees but no chance for profit.
Buying= mortgages, property taxes ,upkeep cost but possibility to recoup cost after selling

Ok but you can pay a mortgage for you house for 30 years and it will be yours but you can pay rent for 50 years if you want and it will never be yours. I don’t understand how this makes any sense?

the whole point of buying a house is so you can sell it someday and get something back out of it... renting is like throwing money in a black hole, it will never come back

This is an L take. There are 15 year mortgages, and even so, you can make extra principal payments any time to pay your house off sooner than the maturity date of the loan.

This will never make sense to me…. Why would it make more sense to pay a landlord the mortgage plus extra… and then say u live there 30 years … if u had a mortgage you’d now own a home if u rent after 30 years u have another rent bill next month

30 years is tuff but renting is throwing you money away if you buy a house for 500,000 the value go up to 750,000 and you payed off 250,000 you sale and get 575,000 to 725,000 profit

Houses aren’t worth anything until you sell them. Underbid, remodel, hold for 2 years to avoid taxes on your profit, and sell. Keeping a house doesn’t make sense anymore unless it’s paid off.

Mortgages allow the stimulation of the economy. People lend their money to banks so banks can lend their money to those who need it - whether it’s used for starting a revolutionary business or achieving your dream of owning your own home. On top of that, having a mortgage can be cheaper than rent in the long run when the price of the property grows, so your equity grows with it. If it weren’t for mortgages, people would have to wait so much longer to be able to own a home. An efficient financial market allows those who can take on risk to bear it (those who can and want a house and need to take out a mortgage) and allows those who have capital to distribute it (people who deposit their money in a bank and the bank lends their money out at a spread).

But what does it matter if you own or rent ?? You can’t take it with you and none of us lives forever. Let’s say you buy at 20 paid off by 50 the house is 30 years old it needs repairs, driveways roofs etc. or your renting and the land lord takes care of all this and it’s all the same outcome in the end you take neither with you.. so please explain here, why is either better then the other. When it comes out to the same outcome ? Maybe so you can give it to your kids or grandkids that you have a 50/50 chance of destroying or sell and end up with nothing in the end? I’m not really understanding why one is better than the other….

I took the average rent in my area and did the math how mutch it would cost to rent that for 30 years it cane out to (1,500x12x30) $540,000 while houses cost about $200,000 yes you gotta factor in repairs taxes ect. that you don't pay as a renter but that don't cost $240,000 over 30 years

The idea of renting being "throwing money away" is a fake narrative. Rent is a place to live that is comfortable, rent also guarantees any repairs arent on you. Someone else pays for it. Until houses drop in price, renting is better
