Things to do on Anglesey: I let the evening wind lift a kite above Newborough’s pale sand, then cross Ynys Môn for seabird cliffs, an unfinished castle and the copper colours of Parys Mountain. Ten stops with very different moods. 1. Newborough Beach and Ynys Llanddwyn. I follow the dune path towards St Dwynwen’s island after watching the kite rise over the shore. The Saint, Sand and Sea trail is 4.4 miles / 7 km, moderate and around three hours. High tide can cut the island off, so I check tide times; parking is charged and the main car park can fill on warm weekends. 2. South Stack Cliffs. I slow down at Ellin’s Tower to watch seabirds gather below the cliffs. The reserve itself is open all day; the visitor centre and café keep daytime hours. The lighthouse means 400 steep steps and weather-dependent access, so I check the day’s tour arrangements before heading down. 3. Beaumaris Castle. I leave time for Edward I’s unfinished masterpiece, its near-symmetrical rings of walls and moat rising beside the Menai Strait. It was never completed, which is part of its character. Opening times change by season and last admission is before closing. 4. Take a boat around Puffin Island from Beaumaris. The island is protected and isn’t open for ordinary landings; I go for the wider wildlife story—seabirds, seals and the strait. Puffins are now scarce here, so I wouldn’t book expecting a sighting. 5. Plas Newydd. I walk the gardens with Eryri across the Menai Strait, then step inside for a mix of military history, theatre and art. There are 40 acres of garden and 129 acres of woodland and parkland; house opening is seasonal. 6. Walk one stretch of the 130-mile Anglesey Coastal Path. I choose the Rhoscolyn coast towards Bwa Gwyn’s sea arches instead of trying to conquer the whole island in a day. It’s exposed coast, so I check weather and route conditions before setting out. 7. Parys Mountain. I follow the path around the Great Opencast, where old copper workings have left the hillside striped with mineral colour. There’s a viewing area and level path around the top; the wider site is uneven and stony underfoot. 8. Penmon. I take a slower hour at the priory, carved cross and great old dovecote, then continue to Trwyn Du lighthouse for the open-water view. Check opening and parking details; paths can be slippery. 9. Rhosneigr. On the island’s west coast, I trade the history trail for a watersports session or a long beach walk. Traeth Crigyll and Traeth Llydan are broad sandy beaches, and Llyn Maelog’s boardwalk makes a gentler wildlife stop. 10. Oriel Môn, in Llangefni. I finish with the island’s own art and history: Charles Tunnicliffe, Kyffin Williams and changing exhibitions. Entry is free and it’s open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am–5pm. I’d leave room between stops: Anglesey looks compact on a map, but its best places are spread along the coast. Which would you start with—the beach, the cliffs or Parys Mountain? #Anglesey #ThingsToDoInAnglesey #NorthWales #YnysMon
