@moneybehindsports: $235M a year. That's Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, and today, at 41, he retired from Portugal. The hidden rule: the release. When a club lends a player to his country, UEFA pays the club for the days he is away. The pot for the 2020-24 cycle: 240 million euros. Ronaldo played 234 matches for Portugal and scored 146 goals, a men's record. 23 years, six World Cups, one European title. His last match: Sept. 24, a 1-0 win over Wales. Al Nassr pays him about $235 million a season, per Marca. That's about $644,000 a day, our math. He has 985 career goals. He wants 1,000. Would you hand back the shirt at 41, or play on to 1,000?
