I taught myself GCSE Japanese. I was very proud of my full marks in speaking despite not knowing any Japanese people at the time. My school offered French, Spanish, and Irish.

A Cornish GCSE was discontinued in 1996, with recognition of it as a minority language, there needs to be a push to bring back a Cornish GCSE.

“GCSE usually means General Certificate of Secondary Education, a school qualification taken in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, usually at the end of Year 11 when students are around 15 to 16 years old. “ for others not familiar (I’m in Canada)

why do they need a Ukrainian GCSE? if Ukrainian is your first language it isn't even going to be challenging.

I studied these languages at O Level (the predecessor to GCSE): English, French, Latin, German and Spanish. The last two were not available on the curriculum so I studied them alone.

I'm Scottish so we had/have a different system... but our options in the 90s were French or German for languages and you HAD to pick one. but also Latin was an optional class. I did French and Latin although I wish there had been other options
