A lot of people assume that because of how well Ferris is doing now, he must have been an easy rescue. The truth couldn’t be further from that. You see so many lovely rescue stories and naturally hope yours will be the same. But that wasn’t our experience. We got Ferris, the little dog who was absolutely terrified of the world around him. He couldn’t even walk over a line on the floor to enter another room. He didn’t leave the house for three months because he was simply too frightened. We’ve now had Ferris for over three years, and whilst we’ve come such a long way, we still have challenges. It’s not always been easy, and there are things he finds difficult that many other dogs wouldn’t think twice about. But if there’s one thing our journey has taught me, it’s the importance of time. Time to decompress. Time to feel safe. Time to learn to trust. Time to realise that the world isn’t such a frightening place after all. You can’t rush these things. You can’t force trust or confidence. Sometimes the best thing you can do is give them the space, patience and love they need, and let them find their way in their own time. I wouldn’t change a thing about our journey with Ferris. Seeing our little dog finally feel safe, loved and happy is worth every difficult day that came before it. If you’re going through something similar with your rescue, please know you’re not alone. I’m always happy to share our experience or answer any questions if you need help 🤎🧡 #dog #PetsOfTikTok #fyp
