You are correct, but the governor of the Bank of England is dangerously out of his depth.

Wages are rising 4% a year. With 4% wage increases a year you get higher than 2% inflation. Rates are too low given where inflation is heading.

It’s such an outdated and dangerous mechanism. I can’t understand why it’s used other than the fact it seem to help the banks make more money. Interest rating increases is inflationary to it’s a double whammy

Monetary policy isn't something only used when inflation is consumer-led unfortunately. That's simply not how it works. Central banks have a 2% inflation target.. regardless of where the inflation originally comes from. Of course raising bbr won't produce more oil or resolve conflicts in the Middle East...but if those price rises move into wages, business costs and wider inflation, the Bank has to act 1st before that happens. That's the bit you're missing, and you've completely ignored what's happening in global bond markets, government borrowing and the trillions being pumped into the AI build out. You can argue whether the Bank has made the right decision, but claiming interest rates should only be used against consumer led inflation is incorrect. In the last six or so months, at least 9 other major central banks have raised interest rates...not just the BOE.

this inflation is to do with government decisions... increase in living wage and public sector pay... it's a government-driven wage price spiral. Don't be duped into thinking it's anything to do with geopolitics.
