🇸🇬 THE THREE STATIONS ARE: 🚝1. Bedok South - TE30 on the Thomson-East Coast Line, also called TEL 🚝2. Sungei Bedok - TE31 and DT37, an interchange between TEL and DTL 🚝3. Xilin - DT36 on the Downtown Line, also called DTL ✅ Bedok South and Sungei Bedok are part of TEL Stage 5, also called TEL5. Xilin and Sungei Bedok are part of the Downtown Line 3 Extension, also called DTL3e. Together they add 4.3km of new tracks in the east. ❓WHY THIS MATTERS? - Two lines stitched together Transport minister said these new stations will stitch together two major train corridors, give commuters in the East new routes and faster journeys. ✅ Sungei Bedok will be the second interchange between TEL and DTL after Stevens station. That means if one line has a disruption, commuters have another route. It also strengthens the resilience of the whole rail network. 👉 WHERE EACH STATION IS AND WHO IT SERVES? 🚝 Bedok South station is located along Upper East Coast Road. It will serve residents in Bedok South and the Bayshore precinct, including nearby schools and housing. 🚝 Sungei Bedok station is near Upper East Coast Road and Bedok Road. It is an underground interchange. It will have underground bicycle parking. It will be the eastern terminus for both TEL and DTL when it opens. 🚝 Xilin station sits below the junction of Xilin Avenue and Changi South Avenue 3. It will serve the Changi South industrial estate, Changi Business Park and surrounding employment hubs. It will also provide more direct rail connections between eastern Singapore and the city centre. 📌 ACCORDING TO LTA: ✅ With Bedok South and Sungei Bedok opening, more than 240,000 households will be within a 10 minute walk of a TEL station. ✅ With Xilin and Sungei Bedok opening, more than 220,000 households will be within a 10 minute walk of a DTL station. 👍 The stations will also improve access to employment nodes such as Changi Business Park and Tampines Regional Centre, and make journeys faster for those living and working along the East Coast corridor. HOW MUCH TIME YOU WILL SAVE? (Photo 5) 👉 LTA gave two concrete examples: 🚝 Havelock to Changi Business Park: Now about 70 minutes. After opening, about 45 minutes by taking TEL from Havelock to Sungei Bedok, then changing to DTL to Xilin. Saving up to 25 minutes. 🚝 Marine Terrace to Expo: Now about 40 minutes. After opening, about 25 minutes by changing at Sungei Bedok and staying on DTL to Expo. Saving about 15 minutes. Overall, commuters can expect to save 10 to 25 minutes on some key journeys. 📌 The opening of TEL Stage 5, which extends the line from Bayshore to Sungei Bedok, will complete the planned five-stage opening of TEL. TEL will then have 29 operational stations spanning 42.8km. 📌 The DTL, which began operations in 2013 and currently runs from Bukit Panjang to Expo, will then have 37 operational stations spanning 44.6km. Another three stations are planned to link Bukit Panjang to the North-South Line by 2035. 🚆THE BIG FUTURE LINK - DIRECT TO JB: When the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, also called RTS Link, opens in February 2027, commuters will be able to board a train at Woodlands North station towards Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru. That means an east sider can in future travel from Bedok South all the way to JB on one continuous TEL journey to Woodlands North, then cross to JB, without needing a bus to Woodlands Checkpoint. ❓WHAT COMES AFTER THIS? With the future extension to Changi Terminal 5 in the mid-2030s, TEL is expected to serve about one million commuters daily in the longer term. 🛣️ Transport minister also said beyond building new lines like the upcoming Jurong Region Line, expected to open in mid-2028, and the Cross Island Line in the 2030s, plus planning for the Seletar and Tengah lines, it is also important to shape demand. Singapore currently has an urban rail network spanning 275km across eight lines. 🖼️ Photo 2, 5, 6 Source: CNA 🖼️ Photo 3, 4, 7 Source: LTA
