@themmasked: People of Talensi, there is a story from 2020 that many young people may never have heard. We all know the Tongraan as the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area. But did you know that a disagreement once arose between the Tongraan and the powerful Nayiri of Mamprugu? And the disagreement concerned five communities: Namoaligo, Nungu, Bapella, Tolla and Digaare. In April 2020, it was reported that the Tongraan had petitioned the Nayiri, questioning why he continued to install chiefs in these communities. The Tongraan argued that, as Paramount Chief, he should exercise that authority within his traditional jurisdiction. But the Nayiri disagreed. According to the report, the Nayiri explained that the five traditional skins had longstanding direct ties to Mamprugu and were traditionally senior to the Tongo skin. Now here comes the interesting question. How can communities within Talensi have a traditional chieftaincy relationship that differs from that of the Tongraan? And what does this history mean for the people of Namoaligo, Nungu and the other communities today? This is not about disrespecting any chief.
