@dyslexicmedik: 💉 Ever struggled with the introducer needle when inserting a central line? Here’s a little technique that some of you might find useful! Most of us have inserted hundreds, if not thousands, of cannulas. The grip, the wings and the way we manipulate them become second nature. It’s muscle memory! The traditional needle-and-syringe technique can feel cumbersome, particularly when trying to maintain fine needle control whilst aspirating. Many CVC packs also contain an introducer cannula catheter, which I personally find preferable to the needle-and-syringe technique. However, some clinicians may still find it awkward to manipulate, particularly without the familiar wings and grip of a standard peripheral cannula. So why not use something we’re already comfortable with? A standard 18G cannula offers a familiar grip and handling characteristics, potentially making venous cannulation easier for some operators. Obviously, guidewire compatibility, ultrasound guidance, confirmation of venous placement and safe Seldinger technique remain essential! 🎥 Here’s a quick demonstration. I’m curious… does anyone else use an 18G cannula for central venous access, or do you prefer the introducer supplied in the pack? 🤔 @WWLNHS #medicaleducation #fyp #pov #criticalcare #fy
