I wish I could explain to you how much you really mean to me without crying. I wish I could put everything I have ever felt for you into words, I feel like nothing I say will ever be enough to explain what you’ve meant to me throughout all these years. It’s crazy to think about how two people who once meant so much to each other can eventually become two people trying to figure out how to say goodbye. Sometimes I sit and think about how everything started, I still remember when everything was so simple. When we didn’t have to question how the other person felt, when talking to you was something I looked forward to, and when having you in my life felt like something I would never have to worry about losing. I’ve liked you since seventh grade. That’s a long time to have someone in your heart, and I don’t think you will ever fully understand just how much of my life you’ve been a part of. We were young, and maybe we didn’t understand what love really meant back then, but I know what I felt was real to me. You weren’t just some random girl I talked to or someone I happened to date. You were someone I genuinely saw something with. Someone I wanted to grow with, make memories with, experience new things with, and hopefully one day look back on everything with and say we made it through. I know we weren’t perfect. I know there were moments when I could have handled things differently, moments when my emotions got the best of me, and moments when I made you feel things I never wanted you to feel. I know I could get jealous, overthink situations, become distant, or let my anger speak before I really understood what was going on. I wish I had understood sooner how some of my actions affected you. I never wanted you to feel like you weren’t appreciated, like you weren’t enough, or like you had to question how much you meant to me. But I also wish you knew that behind all of that was someone who genuinely cared about you. Someone who wanted to treat you right, respect you, make you happy, and be there when things weren’t going so well. I never wanted our relationship to become something where we were constantly hurting each other. I wanted us to be able to talk about things, understand each other, and work through the difficult moments instead of allowing them to become reasons to walk away. I know I can’t change the past. I can explain myself a thousand times, tell you how much I’ve learned, and promise you that I’m not the same person I was before, but I understand that words don’t automatically change how someone feels. I also understand that just because I’ve grown from something doesn’t mean you’re going to give me another chance. I wish things could have been different, but I can’t expect you to see things the way I do. One thing that hurts is knowing that we both had moments where we weren’t the best to each other. We were two young people figuring things out, making mistakes, having feelings we didn’t always know how to handle, and sometimes hurting each other without realizing how much those moments would matter later. I still think about the good things, though. The conversations, the little jokes, the moments when we would make each other laugh, and the feeling of knowing there was someone I could talk to about practically anything. Even the smallest things became memories that I wish I could go back and experience one more time. It’s strange how something that used to be part of your everyday life can suddenly become something you have to look back on instead. And even after everything happened, a part of me never really stopped caring. I tried distancing myself, staying off my phone, and keeping myself busy because I thought maybe having some space would help me understand everything. But even when I wasn’t talking to you, that didn’t mean you suddenly stopped mattering to me. I still wondered how you were doing, how your days were going, and whether you were happy. Everything always comes to an end. What we had is now just a memory.
