On October 27, our family received heartbreaking news. My younger sister, Makaela, was the passenger in the tragic and fatal car accident on Kirchoff Road in Rolling Meadows. My sister was asleep in the passenger seat when the crash happened. She had no warning and no control over the situation. She woke up to a nightmare, suffering life-threatening injuries that required emergency medical care and major surgery to save her life. We are incredibly grateful that she survived, but surviving the accident is only the beginning of a long and difficult road ahead. Makaela faces an extended recovery, ongoing medical care, physical rehabilitation, and an uncertain return to everyday life. She is currently unable to care for herself or manage simple daily activities. She is enduring significant physical pain and this is unbelievably unfair to her. Before this tragedy, Makaela was working extremely hard to build a future for herself. She was balancing a tough schedule with a full-time job while pursuing her education in teaching. She has a dream of one day becoming a teacher, making a difference in children's lives, and helping shape the next generation. If you know my sister then you know Makaela is one of the hardest-working people you could ever meet. She is constantly pushing to create a better future for herself and does her best to motivate those around her to do the same. She has an intense love for her family and friends. She is the BEST Aunt to my toddler and she has a rescued kitten that misses her a lot right now. My sister is unable to work, attend her classes, or continue pursuing her education while she focuses on surviving and recovering. This has left her and our family facing an overwhelming financial burden during an already devastating time. While our family is doing everything we can to support her, the reality is that her recovery will bring expenses and challenges that we cannot manage alone.
