My advice would be, start small. Start with your children. When you come home and they hide in the bedroom, go to the bedroom, tell them you just wanted to say goodnight, ask them about their day and don't judge just be a loving dad.

We all scattered when my dad got home because he always acted annoyed we were there, if we were all watching something, he would either change it without asking or belittle us or even get angry about what we were watching until we changed it, he was always angry, everything turned into a lecture, a question, a story, a fucking joke, everything. Not one time was he ever interested in our lives or what we were doing. That is why we scattered. That is why to this day we have no relationship with him. He hated being a dad, resented us, and made sure we knew it.
