The way so many people have died in 2026 has really changed my perspective on life. If there’s one thing this year has taught me, it’s that life is incredibly unpredictable. A long life is never guaranteed. No matter who you are, what you do, how careful you are or even how prayerful you are, death can come at any time.
I’ve never really been someone who was consumed by the fear of death. I knew it was inevitable, something that would happen to all of us eventually, but it was never something I spent my days worrying about. I simply lived my life.
But when you start witnessing so many deaths, one after another, even among people who aren’t necessarily family or close to you, it hits differently. Death here, death there. You begin to realise just how fragile everything is. You never know who the next phone call will be about. You never know whose turn it will be. And I think that uncertainty is what makes it so frightening, especially when you’ve never experienced the loss of an immediate family member It’s scary, honestly.
And perhaps that’s the biggest lesson I’m taking away from this year live your life. Not because you expect to die tomorrow, but because tomorrow is never promised. Every morning you wake up is another opportunity to actually live, not just exist, not just chase the next big dream, not just postpone happiness until you’ve achieved one thing or another.
