BOX braids and certain other kinds are for black people, but braids as a whole are a protective hairstyle for every hair type. Box braids protect black hair, but most kinds of braids have never been solely for one race.

There is literally no human culture that has not braided hair. I find it so weird for people to use the Vikings as an example of white people who braided their hair. All humans have traditions of braiding hair. It would be equally ridiculous to say that any one culture owns braiding or twisting other materials to make string or rope.

Redhead… my mom did my hair in tight French braids every day when I was little as a protective style. I was wild and my hair would get so tangled otherwise!

I braid and unbraid my hair all the time, mindlessly. I twirl it, braid it, put it in knots, and usually have no idea I'm even doing it. Sometimes it's a comfort thing. For me it's a stim I guess.

When I'm anxious I braid a small section behind my ear... the slight tugging calms me down without pulling my hair out.
