@carlyzell: Gastroparesis is so much more than just a slow stomach. and This was definitely somthing I wasn't prepared for or even knew about before it happened to me. Sometimes gastroparesis alone can become severe enough to require hospitalization and an NG (nasogastric) tube. When the stomach isn't emptying properly, food, fluids, and gastric secretions can build up, causing severe nausea, vomiting, bloating, and abdominal pain. An NG tube can be inserted through the nose into the stomach and connected to suction to remove accumulated stomach contents, relieve pressure, and give the stomach temporary relief. You don't have to have a bowel obstruction to need an NG tube. Severe gastroparesis can sometimes require gastric decompression, too. These pictures are from one of my hospitalizations. This is a side of gastroparesis that people don't always see. Gastroparesis isn't just feeling full after eating.
