@fulltime.freebirds: We bought 10 acres in Alaska for under $50,000 Update. Earlier this year, we bought 10 acres of raw lakeside land in Alaska for less than the price of the average new vehicle! Our vision has been to build a fully self-sufficient cabin by hand: no building codes, no HOA, no contractors, and best of all NO DEBT. We started out in a bell tent and recently upgraded to a tiny cabin we built in less than 3 days- and yes, its a shed! But it’s only temporary and gives us a warm(ish), dry(ish), saf(er) shelter to stay in while we continue to build our main cabin next year. We’re motivated by a future where we can live more on our own terms: a life rooted in nature, real food, and regenerative skill-sharing community systems. This has been an incredibly challenging and risky undertaking and we have no prior construction experience. It’s taken a lot of time, effort, research, energy, money, and more than just a few mistakes, but that’s the point!
