@mollypelletier.rd: Just in case no one has told you yet, a hiatal hernia doesn't have to be a lifelong sufferfest of reflux. The size of your hernia shapes your options. Only about 1 in 10 people with a hiatal hernia ever develop symptoms, and small ones (about 1 to 3 cm) often cause none at all. Small hernia and still dealing with reflux? We work on your anti-reflux barrier: the LES Lock after meals (ribs expanding 360), slowing down and chewing, eating to about 80% full, and smaller, more frequent meals if that suits you. Save this for your next GI appointment, and send it to someone who was just told they have a hiatal hernia. 📚 Puri & Sharma, StatPearls 2026 (PMID 32965871), Eherer 2012 (PMID 22146488) #hiatalhernia #acidreflux #GERD #silentreflux #refluxdietitian

A GI at the Cleveland Clinic told me that the only true fix for my 3cm HH was a gastric bypass. Seems extreme. 😳😬

All my symptoms started and I was diagnosed with Mesenteric adenitis and nothing else. Then 2 weeks later I got diagnosed with mild gastritis and a lot of inflammation. Also GERD and acid reflux. I don’t know who to believe or what to do at the moment. My doctor said to increase my PPI, take magnesium for constipation, and nausea medication. I was already tested for H pylori from an endoscopy and it was negative but i heard that even that can be a false negative. I wanted to be tested again and she said no and i said im scared of getting SIBO and she said thats not even a real thing and if I even wanted to get tested it would be $400. I don’t know what to do anymore. My symptoms I’ve been having are headaches, tiredness, sleepyness, dizzyness, lightheadedness, bad sour taste in mouth, bad nausea, throat burning, acid coming up, stomach burning and aching, sour stomach, pressure and bad bloating in my stomach, heavy breathing, heavy chest, chest pain, and body aches. Ive already tired 2 other PPIs and I was on each of those for a week. I am currently taking esomeprazole 40mg. For the first week, I was better but then the second week, these past three days, ive been feeling that same old way again. Ive been struggling to eat and drink water again too. They said to just do the medication and find meals i can tolerate. I can tolerate boost plus shakes and water right now. Barely. I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t want to get SIBO or H pylori or anything new or different on top of what I already have. I also don’t know if what I have is actually what I have or if I have something different or something else with what I already have. I don’t know what or who to listen too right now. I just don’t know what to do.
