@myviewonevents: "Courtney Bernie, thank you, Mr. Speaker. Um, it's an honor to table e-petition 7556. Uh, they, the petitioners highlight, Mr. Speaker, that since early 2023, armed conflict in the Amara region of Ethiopia has involved Ethiopian government forces carrying out indiscriminate violence and sexual gender-based violence against civilian populations and infrastructure, including through the use of aerial strikes, leaving more than 4.4 million children out of school and hundreds of thousands displaced. They also highlight that the Ethiopian government has carried out arbitrary detentions and torture of Amhara journalists, civil society leaders, and members of parliament and opposition figures, Mr. Speaker. They highlight the incumbent Prosperity Party administration won 90% of federal parliament seats in the June 2026 general election, despite ongoing armed conflict, mass civilian displacement, and suppression of civil society and opposition, and exclusion of major ethnic communities, making conditions for a free and inclusive vote impossible. And that Canada provides over $147 million in development assistance to Ethiopia and maintains significant diplomatic, commercial, and humanitarian interests in the country in the Horn of Africa. They're calling on the government to consider the application of the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act to impose targeted sanctions on individuals credibly identified as responsible for grave human rights violations in Ethiopia, that they publicly demand an immediate ceasefire in the Amara region and the unconditional release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience held by the Ethiopian government, and lastly, that they publicly call on the government of Ethiopia for strengthened transparency around the June 2026 general election results towards an inclusive democratic process. Thank you." #foryou #fy #fyp #fypシ

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO CANADA! 🇨🇦 We, the Amhara people, sincerely thank the Government and people of Canada for being among the first nations to officially raise concerns about the reported genocide against the Amhara people in Ethiopia. Your courage, solidarity, and recognition give hope to millions calling for justice. However, words and recognition alone are not enough. We urgently need further concrete measures and meaningful action against the Ethiopian government to stop the atrocities, protect innocent civilians, and ensure accountability for those responsible. We call on the United States, the European Union, and other European nations to follow Canada's example and take decisive action. THANK YOU, CANADA, FOR STANDING WITH THE AMHARA PEOPLE. NOW, WE NEED ACTION, NOT JUST WORDS! JUSTICE FOR AMHARA!
